Purple milkweed has handsome leaves that provide food for monarch caterpillars and its dark purple flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

In central North Carolina, blooming starts mid to late May and lasts two to three weeks.
How to grow
Sun to part shade. Purple milkweed prefers moist soil, but is surprisingly adaptable and can tolerate periodic drought and flooding.
Care and maintenance
Easy and carefree. Watering plants during extended dry spells will prevent plants from going dormant early.

In flower beds, meadows, butterfly gardens, and rain gardens.

Native habitat and range
Grows at the edges of swamp forests from New Hampshire south into North Carolina, where it’s rare.
Source and origin
Plant are grown from seed collected off plants at the nursery. Original source came from seeds collected from a population growing on the edge of bottomland forest in Pender County, North Carolina.

We guarantee our plants to be healthy, ready for planting, and correctly named. We are not able to guarantee whether a plant will grow in your garden as there are too many circumstances that are beyond our control.
On rare occasions, a plant shipped dormant may fail to emerge from its dormancy. If this happens, please let us know.
If you are concerned about a plant, please contact us within 14 days to let us know. If we can’t help you make it grow, we’ll send you a new plant or issue a refund.Returns
